Menu & Fee Transparency
(Promotions, Ordering, Transaction Fees, Service Tips, and Sales Tax)

  • Promotions: Promotions or discounts to an order or menu item may be available for redemption directly-placed onsite with a branded coupon, paper gift certificate, or direct-order online with a promo code. Third-party orders may have their own promo codes that can be applied at checkout. Third-party promos don’t apply to onsite nor to a direct-order.

  • Onsite Order: Regular menu prices are posted onsite and are subject to change. When ordering onsite sales tax is added to the menu price as seen at the POS guest-facing display (GFD) during payment. Tax-exempt order handling is available only onsite upon showing required documentation. See the Sales Tax section for more information.

  • Online Order: When ordering online sales tax is added to the online menu price at checkout. A $7.49 delivery fee is applied to online orders when requested with delivery fulfillment through DoorDash.

      • Consumer fee: Delivery Fee $7.49.

      • Merchant fee: Transaction Fee (Toast POS fees) and Delivery Fee

        • Card Present Rate (swiped, tapped, or dipped transactions): 2.49% + $0.15 (Visa/Mastercard/Discover) and $3.29% +$0.15 (American Express).

        • Card-Not-Present (CNP) Rate (keyed, phone orders, and online): 3.5% + $0.15 (Visa/Mastercard/Discover) and $3.89% +$0.15 (American Express).

        • Delivery Fee $7.49. DoorDash Drive, facilitated through Toast Delivery Service, will charge El Taco Cart at commission of $7.49 for this delivery. Which includes a $6.99 DoorDash Delivery Fee + $0.50 Toast POS Fee. Chicago BACP Rule 1.03 requirements for commission disclosure.

  • Third-Party Order: Please note, you have the option to directly order onsite or online for the best available price and a fixed delivery fee. If you chose to order through a third-party marketplace provider, menu prices are increased 15% for these orders to cover the cost of service for that platform. Online ordering with third-party marketplace providers add and collect their required sales tax, may add their own processing service fees, and additional fees where applicable along with the selected pickup or delivery option.

  • Catering and Special Events:

    • An invoice for large order, offsite event, or catering event may require a deposit to schedule an order. This may be 50% for orders at or above $1,000 or 100% below. See Online Order and Payment options section for available payment types.

    • Offsite events: Operating offsite at special events, such as festivals, incur considerably increased costs. Menu prices are adjusted accordingly and posted at the event as well as any required or optional add-on fees.

    • Catering: Specific menu items, volume and other special requests may incur a price adjusted as well as required or optional add-on fees.

    • Catering and Special Event Fees:

      • Catering Delivery Fee - based on agreed service.

      • Event Venue Charge(s) - based on charge(s) from event and venue.

      • Rental Charge(s) - based on charge(s) from rental service(s).

      • Fuel Charge - based on vehicle refuel charge.

      • Tolls & Parking Charge - based on incurred tolls and parking charge.

      • Roundtrip Mileage Charge - based on 2024 IRS 67 cents per mile.

      • Roundtrip Mileage Charity Charge - based on 2024 IRS 14 cents per mile.

      • Certificate of Insurance (CoI) - $15 per request for each COI.

  • Service Tips and Gratuity:

    • When selecting a percentage-based (%) service tip directly onsite or online, this is calculated before sales tax and before discounts. Service tips placed with a third-party delivery order are paid out from that marketplace provider directly to the delivery person.

    • Gratuity for large parties of 6 or more onsite include a required 18% fee to the check. The merchant does not benefit from any service tips.

    • Cash service tips are appreciated and paid in full directly to staff at the end of each shift.

    • Credit card tips are also appreciated and paid directly to staff after processing from POS. The merchant does not benefit from any service tips or keep any tips for the house. Pursuant to the proposed Illinois Blue Star Restaurant Program Act (820 ILCS 105/12.1) the employer does not withhold from service tips or gratuities paid by credit card any credit card processing fees that the employer must pay in connection with the transaction.

  • Receipts and Refunds:

    • At the point-of-sale (POS), you have the option to select a receipt be printed, emailed or texted to your mobile. After point-of-sale, a copy of your signed receipt is available upon request, which include meal and fee itemization and tax summary.

    • Any customer request for an order refund after the 3rd calendar day of the sales transaction date would not include the portion paid towards the service tip or gratuity.

    • To request a partial or full refund, you may do so within 3 calendar days starting with the date of the sales transaction. To sufficiently submit your request for a refund, you must include your name, your contact email or phone number, the ordering site (onsite, online, DoorDash, or UberEats, for example), the order amount, date of transaction, and last four digits if paid by card. If the order cannot be found a refund cannot be processed. Any refund would be returned back to the same form of payment or card used for that transaction.

  • Sales Tax: General merchandise, restaurant sales taxes, and tax exempt requests. Sales tax is summarized not itemized on the receipt.

    • Sales Tax: Sales tax is 10.25% for retail items, 10.75% for menu items, or 13.75% for soft drinks.

        • 1.25% Chicago Tax

        • 1.00% Special Tax

      • 0.50% Chicago Restaurant Tax (7525)

      • 3.00% Chicago Soft Drink Tax (ST-14, 65 ILCS 5/8-11-6b) only applies to ‘soft drink’, which include bottled Coke, Sprite, and Red Bull.

    • Tax Exempt: Tax-exempt order handling is available upon showing required documentation (for organizations 501(c)(3) or personal Tax Exemption Card) and verification (PID# OFM) for an order placed onsite, direct-online, or a scheduled catering or special event. Tax-exempt order

  • Payment Options: For onsite, offsite, or catering events additional forms of payment may be available.

    • Accepted Cards: Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express; and supported gift cards.

    • Cash: Cash (USD) is accepted. Cash-discounted pricing is not offered.

    • Check: Payment by money order, cashiers check, or bank check, made out to “El Taco Cart” requires at least 5 business days to clear before the scheduled catering or special event. A check is not accepted for regular menu service for onsite or same-day orders.

    • Crypto payment: Available upon request for catering and special events.

    • Zelle: Available upon request for catering and special events.

    • CashApp: Available upon request @ElTacoCart for catering and special events

      • Consumer fee: no fee (when no currency conversion is involved).

      • Merchant fee: 2.75% + $0.00 on Cash for Business account.

    • PayPal: Available upon request at https://paypal.me/eltacocart for catering and special events.

      • Consumer fee: no fee (when no currency conversion is involved).

      • Merchant fee: 3.49% + $0.49 includes PayPal Payments Standard, Request Money, PayPal.me

    • PayPal Zettle: Available upon request for catering and special events.

      • Consumer fee: no fee (when no currency conversion is involved).

      • Merchant fee:

        • QR Code Transactions: 2.29% + $0.09

        • Card Present Rate Transactions (swiped, tapped, or dipped transactions): 2.29% + $0.09

        • Card-Not-Present (CNP) Rate Transactions (keyed): $3.49% +$0.09.

        • Invoicing Transactions: 3.49% + $0.49 includes PayPal Payments Standard; 2.99% + $0.49 (cards and alternative payment methods)

    • PayPal Venmo: Available upon request @ElTacoCart for catering and special events.

      • Consumer fee: no fee (when no currency conversion is involved)

      • Merchant fee: 3.49% + $0.49

Posted menu prices are subject to change. Taxes and fees may change but are represented as published from the above effective date.

The City of Chicago (Ordinance MCC 4-8-065) requires that, for delivery or take-out orders, single-use foodware be provided only upon request.
Please request if you would like single-use foodware such as napkins or disposable utensils.
